About the Author

Mary Beirne-Smith is associate professor in the Programs in Special Education at The University of Alabama. Her previous experience includes general and special education classroom teaching and public school administration. Her research interests center around academic interventions for students with mild learning disorders who are included in general education classrooms. She is currently involved in implementing a collaborative consultation project with several local education agencies. Mary received her M.Ed. and Ed.D. from the University of Virginia.

Richard E Ittenbach is a biostatistician in the Division of Biostatistics and Epidemiology at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. He has written numerous articles on the adjustment of persons with mental retardation, young adult development, and issues pertaining to the measurement of mental and special abilities. He received his Ph.D. in Education/School Psychology from the University of Alabama in 1989.

James R. Patton is the executive editor at Pro-Ed and adjunct associate professor at the University of Texas at Austin. He has experience teaching students with special needs at the elementary, secondary, and post-secondary levels. His research interests include curriculum development, life-long learning, instructional methodology, and teaching science. Currently he is developing integrated curricula and life skills programs. Jim earned his B.S. from the University of Notre Dame and his M.Ed. and Ed.D. from the University of Virginia.

Very helpful for interpreting Kolbe profiles

As a high fact finder AND quick start I had difficulty making sense of my Kolbe profile, as they're seemingly opposites. The explanations in this book are very helpful, and astonishingly accurate.

Quite surprised this book isn't more well known given how many hundreds of thousands of people have done Kolbe profiles.

A great resource for furthering your own understanding of the Kolbe Index.

Excellent book for those familiar with the Kolbe "A" Index. Clear and concise explanations to help the reader understand, not only their own index results, but also understand the results of others. With Striving Zones, Kathy helps remove some of the confusion of what it means to have a particular score in the Action Modes.

Instead of the using the word "Resistance", later changed to "Prevent", in the results (which can bring about a negative perception to a person who is not familiar with the Kolbe index), Kathy explains her use of the new terms "Act", "ReAct" and "CounterAct". A CounterAction more fully (and positively) describes how a person makes a contribution in a particular Action Mode where they score in the CounterAct range.

It is also a great resource for describing CoActions - where a person leads with two strong Action Modes. When an entire team has taken the Kolbe Index, this book helps further describe how to help each team member contribute at their highest level.

Professor Jintu Fan was awarded a PhD from the University of Leeds in 1989 and is now Professor at the prestigious Institute of Textiles and Clothing at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He has many publications in the area of clothing science and technology. He has also received the Distinguished Achievement Award of the US Fiber Society.

Dr Sun-Pui Ng is a graduate of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

Formerly Senior Lecturer at the University of Leeds, Dr Simon Harlock is the Textile and Apparel Development Manager at Media Innovations Ltd, UK.

Great book, lots of info as well as clinical correlations. Cant give it book 5 stars though becauce of the way it was shipped to me. Paid for a brand new book but recieved a damaged, crumpled copy. Very dissapointed in the seller.

The Essential Heavy Metal Licks Encyclopedia!

For months, I have been contemplating to get this book. Finally I got the book just yesterday August 2, 2016. For years, I have been looking for a book that teaches guitar soloing. Most guitar soloing books out there made 8-10 years ago only teach you theory and technique. Those things are good, but they don't quite deliver when it comes to musicality. I went to different guitar lessons to learn guitar soloing, the teachers would end up telling me to transcribe licks. That seems to be the practical way to learn guitar soloing and improvisation, but with so many rock songs, where do I begin? Isn't life too short to transcribe an arsenal of licks? Then I had a game plan on my mind, I just need to know the essential licks, that's how I'll get started. In late 2015, I discovered this book and I end up purchasing it later.

This book contains the essential or clich� metal licks used by the metal masters in different eras. I know, because I skimmed the book and listened to all the audio. Yesterday, I only learned Lick 1a or the first lick of the book and I was already making a coherent metal guitar solo. I have composed guitar solos before, but they don't sound like rock or metal, they rather sound like a poppy ballad and it sounds very cheesy. How much more when I learned all the licks of the book? I'll be a metal head soon. I'm not your conventional metal head, because I listen to The Carpenters too. Just type my Amazon Username on Youtube and you'll see a bunch of my videos.

This book also teaches you licks beyond the book thru ear training. This book teaches you audiation as well or playing what you sing. So when I am done using this book, I can still learn more licks. The licks in the book also builds technique, the licks progress with steady difficulty. I know Fundamental Changes has more guitar soloing books. I will be getting them soon for self-study.

I highly recommend Fundamental Changes books to every budding and aspiring guitarist, a guitarist who is frustrated in their musicality, or a guitarist stuck in a rut and don't know what the hell to do.

Not Just for "Metal" playing!

This is great book on guitar playing and not just "metal" many of the techniques can be used in all forms of music its up to you to decide on the tempo the high-gain or not. so playing these licks will help all forms. Techniques of one form can be used in anther. I bought it on Kindle and had no trouble downloading the audio well thought out and explained!

"I hate you/I love you" romance.

A Marriage Has Been Arranged is an enjoyable romance that dates itself by some of the jargon and references, but is still a good "I hate you/I love you" story to curl up with for a couple of hours.

Holly Nicholson, 24, is a garden designer who loves her career and is making a name for herself. She is smart and strong and is no doormat. While attending a workshop on flower arranging, she is surprised to see her step-sister's ex-lover there acting as an interpreter for an older Japanese woman. Holly fell in love with him at age 19, when he came to a dinner party. Even then, Pierce Sutherland, 35, was handsome and rich. Holly is dismayed to learn that she not only finds him attractive but she still loves him. The elderly Mrs. Shintaro graciously offers Holly a ride home in the limo, and Holly uses the time to inform Pierce (and Mrs. Shintaro) of her opinion about him: he used her sister for sex, then dumped her, giving her sister a taste for the good life that caused her to go from one rich man to another in the years since. Furthermore, she declares that she hates him and always will.

Pierce denies using the sister, but does not deny that he has had a succession of lovers. Taking the time to see Holly and take her out (yes, she goes with him despite her declaring she hates him,) he says he has changed is no longer the hard charging business man out to accumulate as much wealth as possible, but now runs a foundation that aims to fight mismanagement of aid to the poor in third world countries. And, he is ready to settle down...with Holly.

The characters are well fleshed out and come to life. The dialog is good, too, and sounds natural. I thought there was too much discussion about women's roles in the home vs the workplace, and such, which did not add to the romance. The hero and heroine interact like you would expect them to, so there's no sudden, odd turn that leaves the reader confused. Pierce is a very likable hero and is thoughtful and kind, and I think most readers can identify with the heroine. Holly quickly sees how she is mistaken about her sister (Pierce was not the sister's first sugar daddy) so the reader isn't subjected to the shrewish 'I hate you' rhetoric for very long.

The plot is pretty straightforward and there's really no misunderstandings, other than Holly worrying over the fact that she loves him but he does not love her. Mainly, it is their getting to know one another and Holly seeing how Pierce has changed. With no real problem to overcome, the ending slides right into the honeymoon, which is a sweet couple of chapters. However, this book includes a description of what must be the gaudiest bed ever to grace the pages of a romance book!

I always thought that Harlequin Romances, the old ones, at least, were 'clean' and without sex in the story, however as I work my way through a large box of old HRs, I am finding this is certainly not true of many authors. In this one, sex is front and center as a topic of conversation. Pierce has had a string of kept women, and Holly is no virginal heroine. Still, she worries that she will not be skillful in bed enough to satisfy him, and is ready to get on with the lessons before the wedding. Thankfully, Pierce insists they wait.

Worth buying

I liked the book because it had a lot of information about all the activities going on for the holiday. Also, the book told about how the more expensive resorts were decorated which I would have missed if I hadn't read the book.

I was disappointed because all the pictures were in black and white instead of colored.

Excellent Disney Christmas Guide

I found this Disney Christmas guide very helpful. We have been to Disney a few times, but never at Christmas. Now, after reading this book, I definitely want to go at Christmas time. The author did an excellent job of highlighting the special Christmas activities, parties, shows, and displays. There are so many things that I want to see, in and out of the parks - especially the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights Display, the Gingerbread displays at the hotels, and the Holidays Around The World - Candlelight Processional! I learned so much from this book and I highly recommend it!

Helps get you in the spirit of the season!

I decided to check out this book after reading another book by this author called "Disney Tips & Secrets: Unlocking the Magic of a Walt Disney World Vacation". This is a great book to get you in the spirit of the holidays- whether or not you're going to Disney this year! Our family is planning a trip to Disney over the next year or so, and after reading this book I really want to go at Christmas! I've always thought it would be too crowded (and expensive!) to go during the holidays, but the author provides some creative ideas for getting around that. The book also lays out everything that's unique to Disney for the holidays and it's filled with beautiful photos showing the park decorations and attractions all decked out for Christmas!

I had never even heard of `Osborne Lights' until I read this book. The pictures and vivid description provided by the author make me really want to check them out! (Certainly puts our family's light display to shame- lol.) All the other Christmas festivities sound like lots of fun too.

If you have even a passing interest in Disney, at Christmas or any other time of year, you really should read this book. Although there are a few other Disney Christmas books out there (including one that's terribly over-priced!) this one is the best of the ones I've seen.
